So you’ve started the new year with a goal that doesn’t last because you can’t keep up with it. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Maybe you feel like giving up.
⁣⁣
You eat food to help cope with the frustration. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You step on the scale to see the damage you’ve done and instantly feel your heart drop. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You’re not alone in this pain. Trust me. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Before I discovered my passion for fitness, became a certified personal trainer, got my B.S. in Exercise Science at Salisbury University... ⁣⁣(Go GULLS!)
⁣⁣
I would always set fitness goals for myself that I could never finish. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Why?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Because none of them were sustainable. I always had the “all or nothing” mentality and tried to get results as quick as possible. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Lose fat or weight as quick as I could. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The goal shouldn’t be to “lose fat as quick as possible” because you KNOW that a fad diet and going from 0-100 won’t get you the results, nor will it give you LASTING results. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Start small. Make small changes. These small changes will turn into small wins. Which will eventually turn into BIG changes that will give you the last results you’re looking for. ⁣⁣

What I suggest:
⁣⁣
Smaller steps will help prevent you from doing too much too soon. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Start the new year with a goal that you can keep up with. ⁣⁣

My personal goal is to get to the gym 3 days per week and complete 2-3 scheduled cardio sessions. Sometimes I will do cardio directly AFTER my lifting session and other days I will simply do it on a different day. It all depends on my schedule and how much time I have.
(My new favorite gym is One life in Rockville. All of the equipment is so shiny and never feels like it’s jam packed because it’s SO BIG!)

So before you head to work tomorrow (unless you’re snowed in!), write out a healthy goal that’s realistic for your lifestyle.
⁣⁣
Stop feeling like a failure. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Stop abusing food and using it to cope with the pain. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Stop replacing REAL FOOD with meal replacements. There is absolutely NOTHING special about shakes, detox teas, meal replacements etc. ⁣⁣
⁣
Stop doing fad diets like keto just because that’s how “everyone is losing weight because keto is amazing and will make you lose 20-50 pounds of fat in one month” ⁣⁣
⁣
My brain is going to EXPLODE if I hear one more thing about keto or Herbalife. ⁣
⁣⁣
Be smart. Do your research. ⁣
⁣
You CAN do this. ⁣
YOU. ARE. NOT. ALONE. ♥️⁣⁣

My name is Demetra Eftimiades but I go by Demi!

I am the owner of Demefit Online Personal Training and I was born and raised in Silver Spring MD. I attended Bethesda Chevy Chase High School my freshman year and finished the remainder of my High School career overseas. Throughout high school I have always participated in sport teams year round so fitness has always been a part of my life! In college, I joined the Montgomery College Women’s Basketball Team while studying athletic training. I also joined the Women’s Softball team during the spring season for a short period of time. I participated in 2-hour long practices daily in addition to games. You would think I would be in amazing shape. Yet, my nutrition was not the best so I gained a substantial amount of weight in college. This just goes to show you can’t out-train a bad diet.

During my college career, I went through a massive mind and body transformation; losing over 50-pounds in fat. Over the years, I worked my way back up by increasing the number on the scale by gaining muscle. My transformation story has been featured by Toby Knapp on HOT99.5, Washingtonian, MSN.com, Bodybuilding.com, Train Magazine, Muscle & Fitness Hers, and several more. My mission is to share my health and fitness knowledge with the world and make life easier for those who are struggling with their own fitness journeys.
