Hi guys! My name is Demetra but you can call me Demi. I am a certified personal trainer and the owner of Demefit.com Online Personal Training! I am so excited to be able to share all of my fitness tips and discoveries throughout Montgomery County with you all!

This week we’ll be sharing some of the top activities you can dive into to start burning some extra calories and really work up a sweat in this heat! Just make sure you stay hydrated because this heat can be unbearable. Especially if your caught smack dab in the middle of afternoon rush-hour on 270 with a broken air cooling system.

Let’s get to the good stuff.

Bikeshare
I finally decided to buy a membership to cut down on my driving commute and bike to the station instead. That way I get to burn some extra calories on my way to work and have a nap on the metro! Win-win! My current membership is $8 monthly. Without the membership it is $7 to rent a bike. For up to 30 min the ride itself is free of charge. For an additional 30 min, $2 is tacked on. For 1 hour to 1.5 hours, the cost is an additional $6.

Black Hill Boats
Great upper body workout for those of you who love being in the water. I’ve hit the boats instead of going to the gym when the weather is nice out and let me tell you, you will sweat! Hours are from noon-6:00pm for $13 for weekdays and weekends $14 from 6:30am-6:00pm for all canoes, kayaks, and row boats.

Popular Meetups in Moco:

Mid-Atlantic Hikers Climbers Campers
If you enjoy hiking throughout the DMV, why not hike with a friend?

Social Tennis of Rockville and Olney
Tennis is a great way to increase mobility as well as upper body strength and agility! Not only that, but you can do it all in great company. They play at Walter Johnson High School, Woodley Garden Park and Montgomery College in Rockville. This group is meant for intermediate levels and a yearly fee of just $10. Anyone who’s looking for some fun competitive tennis is welcomed to join.

Bethesda FC
Outdoor Co-ed Sunday soccer pickup games for young adults!

Airpark soccer plex
Indoor Co-ed Soccer in a friendly and welcoming environment. I’ve met some pretty amazing people here. Teams are chosen randomly and each team plays till 2 goals are scored or a maximum of 4 minutes of play time per game. Just make sure you sign up to play on their facebook page because spots usually fill up pretty quickly.
$5 to play from 8:30-10:30 M-F

Bike Rockville: Casual Riding in MoCoGreat way to meet some fellow bikers (matching embroidered leather jackets not included) and build up some endurance and build lower body strength.

Blueberry Hill Park Ultimate Frisbee  Frisbee is a full body workout. Especially if it’s ultimate Frisbee. They welcome all levels to the sport so get ready to sweat!

Muevete Mondays
Looking for some closer one on one attention? Grab a partner and dance the night away with “Muevete Mondays” at VisArst in Rockville town center!
They have two classes to choose from: Beginners class goes from 7:00 to 7:45 and intermediate goes from 7:45 to 8:30. From 8:30 to 11:00 the floor is open to all!
Please check prices on their website for classes.

If you want to shake some stress off from the work week and enjoy a drink while you dance, head up to the 6th floor of the VisArts building and dance on the rooftop hosted by La Tasca. The view from the top is beautiful. The floor opens up at 5:00 and finishes up at 10:00.
There is a cover charge so please be mindful of that.

Thomas Farm Community Center Basketball
If you’re not much of a dancer, pick up a basketball and head over to Fallsgrove for some Monday and Thursday night Co-ed Basketball Open Gym at Thomas Farm Community Center.
Times run from 7:00-9:30 and you must be +18 or older to play.

There are so many benefits to working out outdoors.  From Improved mood and reduced depression, enhanced self-esteem, low costs, and connecting more with people and nature, the benefits are endless! If you’re new to the area, just getting back into fitness, or even looking for something new to try, these are some great ways to change up your routine in a fun and enjoyable manner. Whether it’s spiking a ball over a net or learning how to dance bachata, and movement counts.  All you have to do is get out there and move it!

I hope you’ve enjoyed learning about some of the ways I enjoy getting active and working out in the community before fall rolls in!
