The iFly Experience (Gaithersburg)

iFly in Gaithersburg has officially opened!

I dont think I’d ever jump out of an airplane…it’s just not my thing. Because of that, I was a bit hesitant to give iFly a shot, but since it was finally in MoCo I knew I had to.

Yesterday, I was able to go in for my first iFly experience at their Gaithersburg location (9400 Gaither Road). I had a great time and I recommend it as an activity you can do solo, with friends, on a date, or with the whole family.

Here’s how it went down:

• I got there 5 minutes before my 6pm reservation (there’s no need to arrive early, but they ask that you’re not more than 15 minutes late).

• Check-in took a couple minutes on a kiosk (waivers are signed and you get your wrist band).

• We met up with our certified flight instructor and got our equipment (suits, helmets, eye wear, etc.)

• Flight training took place in a small room where we watched a video that taught us proper body position and hand signals for communication in the flight chamber.

• We flew!

I have never been sky sky diving before, so this type of experience was very new to me. I was nervous going into it, but I felt very safe the whole time and enjoyed my flights.

Each flight lasted 45 seconds and after simply leaning in to the chamber, I was spotted by my instructor.

Here’s a clip of me flying!

My certified flight instructor, Leo, is a recent graduate of Watkins Mill High School. He was awesome and made sure our experience was safe and fun from start to finish.
Each flight is the equivalent to about 1.5 skydives. My experience lasted about an hour from start to finish, but the normal iFly experience tends to last a little longer than that (1 hour and 45 minutes according to the www.iflyworld.com).

If you enjoy your time there, I highly recommend buying the return flyer packages for a pretty big discount on the rates.

The prices and more of my experience can be seen in the images below.
