Riggleman previously managed the San Diego Padres (1992-1994), Chicago Cubs (1995-1999), Seattle Mariners (2008), and Washington Nationals (2009-2011).
He grew up in Rockville, graduating from Richard Montgomery High School in 1970, where he played baseball and basketball.
One long-time Montgomery County resident told me “I’d hang out with Jim at the Hot Shoppes on Rockville Pike.” The same resident told me that Riggleman’s mother worked at that same Hot Shoppes (at Congressional Plaza, where Matchbox is currently located).
After graduating, Riggleman played baseball at Frostburg State University. He was then drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1974.
