Regal Announces It’s Closing All U.S. Theaters, What Does That Mean for Us?
British company Cineworld, which owns Regal Cinemas in the United States, said it would temporarily close all 663 of its movie theaters in the United States and Britain, in a move that is expected to affect 40,000 employees in the United States.
What does that mean for MoCo? Not much, right now.
Though we have three Regal Cinemas in MoCo (Germantown, Rockville, and Silver Spring) movie theaters have been closed since mid-March and the county didn’t progress to Phase Three when Governor Larry Hogan announced that the state was able to do so.
A recent delay in the opening of new films led the company to decide that it would not be worth remaining open until there was once again a pipeline of new films.
As it stands right now, If MoCo was to advance to Phase Three and allow movie theaters to open, Regal Cinemas would not reopen until Cineworld feels there’s a pipeline of movies to attract movie-goers.
