Germantown Native, Hawa Lukulay, Wins eBay’s Shine Award For Young Entrepreneur Of The Year

Hawa Lukulay began scouring yard sales in Bethesda and Potomac when she was still a student at Northwest High School.

In 2013 she started Messie’s Closet, her eBay store, and has gone on to sell over 10,000 items!

Hawa went to school at the University of South Carolina and continued to grow her business throughout college. Earlier this year she applied for eBay’s Shine Awards for Small Business program.

eBay’s Shine Awards for Small Business program, sponsored by Intuit, is a seller recognition program that celebrates the contributions of small businesses on eBay to the economy and recognizes the entrepreneurs who have used eBay to help build successful businesses. The finalists were selected from more than 1,300 submissions that came in from across the country.

A few weeks back Hawa became a finalist and tonight she was named the 2018 Shine Award winner for Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Hawa is a former student of mine and The MoCoShow is incredibly proud of her. She plans to use the $5,000 in prize money to open a small studio workshop and continue to expand her business. We wish you the best of luck, Hawa!
