We received a tip today that the KFC/Taco Bell in Damascus (26141 Ridge Rd.) is “tearing down everything inside” and will be closing.
After making a few phone calls it has been confirmed that the location has already closed and will not be re-opening.
At the beginning of this year we reported that Pizza Hut, Burger King, and Subway have all closed in Damascus (Subway plans to reopen).
Krazy Steve’s will open in late March at 1909 Seminary Rd in Silver Spring, in the location that was the longtime home to Armand’s Pizza.
The restaurant is owned by Stephen Adelson, who also owns multiple Carbivore BBQ food trucks and day-to-day operations will be handled be General Manager, Danny Mutany.
The restaurant is being described as a “neighborhood joint” that will deliver and cater events, and offer bbq, mac, salads, pizza, and more!
Over a year has passed since we reported on BurgerIM coming to MoCo. The chain has made some progress and should be open in the coming months.
BurgerIM, an Israeli burger chain that translates to “many burgers” from Hebrew, will be opening soon in Wheaton Mall. The first BurgerIM opened in 2011 and the burger chain has already expanded to over 160 stores worldwide in just over 5 years.
They sell mini-burgers (not sliders) using 2.8 ounce patties that are larger than a slider sized patty. Their selling point is variety, and there’s plenty of it. They offer 11 different types of patties, including beef, dry aged beef, Wagyu beef, merguez, Turkey, lamb, chicken, salmon, veggie, Spanish beef, and falafel.
Their disc shaped fries are more like slices of potatoes, but they also provide the option to get sweet potato fries (in the traditional shape), onion rings, or home fries (cubes potatoes tossed in chili sauce and topped with sesame seeds).
Combo options include the uno (one burger), duo (two burgers), trio (three burgers), and Party Box (16 burgers!). In addition to burgers, BurgerIM will offer a variety of sandwiches and salads.
Wheaton Mall told me they don’t have an exact date, but that they hope it’ll open in a few months.
I grew up in Gaithersburg, not too far from Damascus, yet one of the only things I knew about Damascus was the existence of Jimmie Cone. Since then, I've learned plenty more about the wonderful, tight-knit community, but one thing's for certain...I still love Jimmie Cone.
Jimmie Cone has been serving soft serve ice cream and frozen yogurt in Damascus since 1962 (that's 57 years!). They close when the weather gets colder in the late Fall, but don't worry...March 17th marks the first day of the 2019 Jimmie Cone season.

Sen. Will Smith (MoCo) Sponsors Bill That Gives MD Residents A Third Option For Gender on Driver’s License/ID Card
Senator Will Smith of Montgomery County is sponsoring a bill that would give Maryland residents a third option for gender on a driver’s license/ID card.
Yesterday The Baltimore Sun reported that the bill will be moving forward in the Maryland General Assembly.
Sen. Will Smith is quoted as saying “This is a way that we can recognize that segment of the population so they can feel like they can move throughout society with a little bit of ease.”
The final vote will take place by the end of the week and, if approved, will allow residents to select between the current choices (M-Male/F-Female) and the added X-Unspecified/Other.
